Session description:

A panel of renowned European and Indian ICT experts will highlight the joint research prospects and potential benefits to India and Europe in domains that hold the key to societal development, technology leadership and marketplace success:
  • ICT addressing Societal Challenges
  • AudioVisual Media & Internet
  • Emerging Technologies & Infrastructures
The audience will get a unique opportunity to hear from some of the most renowned European and Indian ICT actors drawn from industry, research and academia, through concrete examples and cases, the strategic importance of conducting multilateral collaborative research and fostering joint innovations. This session will offer the participants the opportunity to highlight and share their views on EU-India collaborative research and innovation and also to get their own ideas and suggestions for effective joint research programmes and projects canalised to the bilateral dialogue process between the Indian and EU authorities.

Euro-India SPIRIT Project : An Introduction

Euro-India SPIRIT (www.euroindia-ict.org) is an initiative funded by the European Union that aims to engage the EU and Indian ICT stakeholders and make them frontline actors in setting a joint research agenda through the alignment of research and innovation objectives and priorities in India and in the European Union. This initiative will canalize the stakeholder views with respect to effective research cooperation and bolster the efforts of the policymakers from both sides to identify shared goals and formulate policies to promote and sustain joint research actions, programmes and projects.

Euro-India SPIRIT is a partnership effort between six leading European and Indian entities – the European Research European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM), the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the Centre for Science, Development & Media Studies (CSDMS), Trust IT Services and Infra Technologies.

Euro-India SPIRIT seeks to:
  1. Analyse the research dimension of Indian ICT policy, encompassing ICT technologies and applications and domain implications
  2. Organise and probe stakeholders to identify medium to long term vision and perspectives and reveal complementarities with EU priorities, notably the i2010 strategy and objectives and updates
  3. Update, Assist and Enrich the Policy Dialogue process and meetings between the EU and India with periodic reports, surveys and position papers encompassing findings from policy research and stakeholder views dealing with common R&D perspectives, priorities, opportunities and challenges
  4. Organise synchronized stakeholder events and domain experts deliberations to enhance the profile and communicate the utility of the policy dialogue process
  5. Recommend future co-operation initiatives and identify matching counterpart funding to leverage Indian research capability and capacity and to engage in projects in common priority areas
  6. Develop synergies with other Europe-driven ICT activities underway in India covering capacities and people dimensions
