The Need:
The higher education sector in India has survived and indeed thrived through many periods of turmoil. The longevity of higher education institutions suggests that the sector is 'getting it right' in delivering what they were established to do: the core business of teaching and learning, research, and contribution to business, community and society.
With globalisation, it can be anticipated that the higher education system shall be operating in an increasingly challenging, competitive and complex world.
In today’s rapidly evolving higher education marketplace, setting educational institution apart from the competition has become imperative. This summit has been developed with the goal of enabling higher education CIOs to share best practices for supporting the academic mission and meeting the increasing demands on their IT organizations.
With the rapid technological changes, the assumption is that the education leadership teams that are innovative and creative and who also put technology to maximum strategic advantage, will be amongst the 'winners' emerging from this difficult climate. Building in that 'agility' may be crucial to leadership capacity for change.
The summit will stimulate discussion on some of the key topics including:
- Using technology for implementation of examination and assessment in an unified way;
- Teacher training and refresher courses in technology for updating teachers;
- Creating a technology map for a higher education institution;
- Future priorities for higher education IT development;
- The role of technology in supporting off-campus education;
- Enhancing the online admissions process;
- Managing multi-site data centres – challenges and benefits;
- Examining the introduction of the virtualised IT environment;
- Addressing the increasingly complex issue of information management.
