The application of Information Technology (IT) to government processes, e-Governance in short, has a profound impact – on the efficiency, responsiveness and accountability of the government; thereby, on the quality of life and productivity of citizens and businesses. It ultimately affects the economic output and growth of the country as a whole. Starting from Karnataka’s Bhoomi project and Andeman and Nicobar following the suite recently are the example of how the use of IT in the land records and citizen service delivery. Government of Delhi is poised to use three dimensional mapping of the city which will enable better G2G interaction, efficient planning and resource utilization. Litigants can now track the progress of their cases in the Supreme Court, and have access to all judgments since 1952 on compact disc. Pondicherry has computerised its ration card system. Jharkhand has introduced the e-Nagrik services. North eastern states being the latest entrant in the journey of e-Governance. These few examples are just the tip of the iceberg; still a lot has to be travelled on the journey which has just begun.
egov INDIA 2010 will provide a platform for all stakeholders- policymakers, practitioners, industry leaders, academicians and architects of e-Government projects to discuss and debate on the above issues, as also share the achievements, challenges and lessons learnt in implementing e-Governance in India.
