Community Radio Policy guidelines issued by the Government of India recently, makes it possible for registered non-government organisations (as mediators for communities) to set up and establish community radio stations. The ecosystem is now at a very exciting phase. A number of organisations have been engaged in mobilising communities, to use voice as a medium of communication, to reach the masses. Community Radio India 2007 plans to bring the stakeholders, including the government, donors, civil society,academia, the private sector, and new incumbents together to reflect, debate and understand the opportunities and challenges. The forum will also explore ways to overcome the obstacles through collaborations and mutual learning, and chart out the next phase of operationlising the opportunities.
